Been wanting to explore more of Greece, and so after a trip to Cyprus decided to take a short flight out west to visit the island of Crete. Haven’t done my home work well, so wasn’t sure what to expect, yet the island and everything I saw on that trip was wonderful.
First stop, Heraklion. I had a day on arrival and a day before the flight back to explore the city and a bit of the surrounding area. There are more charming cities in Crete, but there’s still much to see and explore, with walls surrounding the old city, which you can walk on and explore, a wonderful seaside fortress, and a lively center with lots of bars and restaurants.
I then rented a car and headed out for a trip around the western part of the island, and upon my return and before my flight, I took a drive out to the central mountains to the east and south east of the city to get a slightly different vibe.
Here are my visions of Heraklion, Crete, Greece….
Old town…
City walls and sea-side walk…
Trip out to the mountains south of the city…
More on those to come…
