Bhaktapur in Nepal, the “city of temples”, is a day trip away from Kathmandu, 13km to the east. It once served as the capital of one of the local kingdoms, back in the 15th century, and features, well, you guessed it, a lot of temples.
At the heart of the site is the typical palace “Durbar Square”, from which you can venture out in a walking tour in any direction, and there’s plenty to explore for more than half a day, longer if you wish to climb up to some of the roofs and have a drink or a meal while overlooking the locals and tourists from above. It’s a UNESCO heritage site, and even though it went through some bad earth quakes in 2015, much has been or is in the process of being restored, and there’s plenty to admire, see, and do.
Let’s explore…
