For many years I wanted to visit Malaysia but due to technical reasons I was not allowed to visit. In 2021 things changed, and I could finally go and visit. Given the pandemic, I had to wait a bit, so finally, in 2023, I managed to make it happen. I know close to nothing about Malaysia, so wanted to sample different regions and see different things. I ended up starting with Kota Kinabalu as my first step and Kuching as the second.
It was new, and a bit different, than many of the other south-eastern Asian countries I’ve visited, but I was less than impressed with Kota Kinabalu. My visit was brief and during the rainy season, so I didn’t get to explore the small islands and go hike Mount Kinabalu as I originally hoped, but was a bit relieved when I left and arrived in Kuching, which was nicer to explore and more welcoming.
So, to kick off the Malaysia visit, here are my visions photo summary of Kuching and Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia…
