More food, this time from the Shanghai visit. In Shanghai I visited quite a few restaurants representing different parts of China and had my fair share of surprises when it comes to diversity of tastes and levels of spicy (which I do not handle that well).
Of all the restaurants I found two worth mentioning.
The first is Godly restaurant or Gong De Lin (功德林) which is self proclaimed as “the top of vegetarian food in the world”. I don’t know about “top in the world” thing, but the entire meat looking menu is very much strict Buddhist vegetarian and so the one thing they do extremely well is fake meat.

The second one is Lost Heaven (天堂云南餐厅) which specializes in Yannan province folk cuisine. While there is some controversy whether this is authentic Yunnan province food or not, the setting’s nice, the atmosphere is groovy and the food generally looks and tastes great (reviews here).
