Tung Lung Chau : Hong Kong

Hong Kong is my second home. I’ve live in Hong Kong for many years and I’ve had plenty of time to explore most of the places in Hong Kong. Even though Hong Kong is one of the most diverse exciting cities in the world, I did a pretty good job of covering almost everything, and so on my recent visit to Hong Kong when friends and colleagues asked where I’m going to go, I honestly had no idea. But my stay was in a very local area of Shau Kei Wan and I discovered the Sai Wan Ho lesser known ferry pier which connects to Kwun Tung, the Lei Yue Mun fishing village, and – to my surprise – to Tung Lung Chau, an island I’ve never heard of before. The ferries only go on weekends, but I just had to go checkout an unexplored island. It’s smaller and more local than some of the others, but there are beaches, mountains with great views, and even a 17th century run-down fort. That’s right, 17th century, in Hong Kong, establishing the trade routes for the Song dynasty. Don’t get your hopes up, though, it’s a one-man size fort, and it’s in bad shape. Still, history, nature, beaches, islands, that’s a deadly combo, the perfect Hong Kong island getaway.

So you arrive at this ferry pier…

With these views over to the Kowloon-HK island side…

You can camp there overnight, if you’d like, but I just enjoyed the scenery and the beach…
