On China National 60th anniversary, Hong Kong ran an insane fireworks display that went on for about 23 minutes all around Victoria Harbor. Starting from 6:30pm all traffic to through to the harbor was stopped, and the police took charge of all pedestrian roads surrounding the harbor. My location was just off the Central piers, coming back from Cheung Chau island, but still – we got some of that special atmosphere. Seems like whether the HK locals feel truly Chinese during that day or not (my few HK friends – “not”), they’ve all done their best to enjoy the day off and make the most of the millions of HK$ invested in this spectacular.

Other posts from the HK blogosphere on the fireworks:
Hi Fili — I think you're right. Everyone I know was excited by the fireworks. But when asked, nobody would admit to feeling “patriotic.” It didn't have any of the nationalistic pride or politics it did on the mainland.
By the way, I've just moved Joyceyland to a new address: http://joyceyland.blogspot.com/
The Windows Live interface drove me crazy, so now I'm trying Blogger.
Yeah, well, it's a process. Your kids might feel completely Chinese … 😛
Why blogger and not WordPress (.com/.org)?
