In a strange way, Turkish food reminded me how Israeli I am, or rather – how Middle Eastern, or maybe Mediterranean I am. After a few years of being confined to Asian food or Asian variants of food from other places of the world, Istanbul hit me with the best of the real thing. The food I had in Turkey every single meal was absolutely delicious, what I like, and the way I like to eat it. In my limited cultural perspective, this is how a meal should look like – lots of meat, preferably beef or lamb, bread in the form of Pita, Cheese and Yogurts, heavily spiced fresh “live” salads, and sweets that blow your head off with sugar.
Following are some samples of the food we had in Istanbul. The first few shots are from a place I strongly recommend called Hamdi with gorgeous panoramic views of the Bosphorus. Dining doesn’t get much better than that.
Hummus and Doner (photos found on a random web search)…
Sweets sold every few meters… Baklawa is to die for.
Finally, some of what my sister and her friends cooked (first photo is the “Israeli style” Shakshuka…)
Excellent food. i wish i had this in Tainan.
it is better to put discription of every photo what kind of food it is for the east Asian readers. Even i was not sure what is the kind of food the serve in y every photo.
