Vancouver has a very large population of Hong Kong and Chinese people. So much so that it’s sometimes called Hongcouver, and large areas of Vancouver have a majority Chinese population. Since I spent a very long time in Hong Kong, I thought I would feel at home in these areas, and for the most part I did. But, China Town Vancouver turned out to be a nasty surprise, it was not a pleasant experience. I thought I’ll check out the Sun Yat Sen Chinese garden, and that was alright although unbelievably over-priced, but the neighborhood is just next to an area filled with junkies and homeless people and if you wonder a block or two off in the wrong direction you’re right at the center of it. Other than those gardens, there just isn’t much to see there, so I would actually recommend staying away from that area altogether.
Still, if you do find yourself in need of a China Town area and some Chinese gardens, here is what you can expect to see…
Location:
I really wish they’d do something about the downtown drug addict area, it really ruins the whole tourist experience of visiting downtown Vancouver. But, if you know where NOT to go, there’s actually lots of other things for you to do in Vancouver. More to come…
