Care for some Chinese street food? Then just head down to the local Chinese main street at night time and you’ll have endless options of all shapes, tastes and sizes. Most chances are that this main street you’ll go to would be named about China’s most beloved Sun Yat Sen, the leader of the 1911 revolution, or – as referred to in China – Sun Zhong Shan.

So, while in Xiamen, I had the pleasure of walking past Zhong Shan street a number of times during night time to enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of a very active food night market.

Behold, the wonders of Chinese street cuisine…

Found something you like?

I admit with shame that I didn’t try many of those. Somehow, while I gathered up the courage to taste almost everything on Taiwanese night-markets, I somehow still hold back when it comes to Chinese night markets. I think it has something to do with the fact that the local friends I go with to those markets keep telling me I shouldn’t. Human biases, go figure. Maybe I need more culinary adventurous friends.

Not much to see during night time, in case you were wondering.

Most shop keepers are just laying around relaxing…

It’s a nice street, Zhong Shan. Some pseudo colonial architecture there that is well lit during night time. Regardless of food markets, it’s nice to walk this back and forth…

If I understand correct, it’s as close as you’ll get to active nightlife in Xiamen. It goes on till pretty late ’round midnight. Enjoy.
