One of the more charming neighborhoods I had the pleasure of visiting while in Chicago was Wicker Park, vaguely familiar to me from scenes of a movie that goes by that name. Luckily for me, a lovely & enthusiastic Couch-Surfing host was kind enough to tolerate my company and lead me through the streets and parks and so I guess I had a bit of a local feel to the place as well.
The first thing you’ll probably notice about this area is that it has style, with some colorful graffiti, great little shops and boutiques, and generally a pleasant laid back atmosphere. I must say this is something I was surprised Chicago had quite a lot of, but in Wicker Park it was even more apparent.
Take this "The Boring Store", for example, which I understand is now a chain…
If you walk inside…
… you’ll see it has a nice design to it with some very odd offerings. Vintage and peculiarities are in fashion, is seems, atleast as far as my CS host was concerned.
Not convinced? Take a look at this random coffee shop we walked into, with a "Back to the Future" DeLorean hanging up at the back…
But ofcourse, we can’t let you leave without seeing the actual Wicker Park…
Or some of the surrounding houses…
Yep, a nice little tour of a charming little neighborhood. Go wonder the streets yourself…
