In late 2018 China opened the Hong Kong-Macau-Zhuahi bridge, the longest bridge in the world and an archaeological wonder. I’ve been to Macau many times, but I’ve never visited Zhuhai, so opening of the bridge gave me the opportunity to experience the bridge and see a new place. Zhuhai exceeded my very low expectations. Sure, it gets the leftover mainland visitors coming in to Macau and finding it too expensive, and has some dubious spa and gambling related services to cater the gamblers going nearby, but if you get away from the border, there’s actually quite a bit to explore and discover. I spent a couple of days wondering around and felt like I could come back and see more. Also, I was lucky to catch an international circus festival in town that was great fun.
Do stop by on the way to Hong Kong and Macau, and give it a chance.
