Back at the end of the 1980s I spent a year living in the middle of no-where US at the little town of Topeka Kansas. I’ve come to think of that year in the US as one of the best years of my childhood and many things about who I am and what I’ve become, including my endless passion for roaming around the world and exploring, probably started back in that year. When I realized I was moving to live in Urbana-Champaign Illinois, I planned on visiting back in Topeka to try and relive some of the memories and go back in time to happy childhood memories. In July I finally got the chance, and went on a road trip from Illinois, through Missouri, to Kansas, stopping over in Hannibal, the Mark Twain town, spending some time in Kansas City and Independence, and then finally making my way to my old home Topeka. I found my old home and elementary school, reunited with old neighbors, and revisited some of my old hangouts. I remembered more than I thought I would, and it was all pretty exciting.
Below are my visions of Topeka, Kansas City and Hannibal, to give you a quick preview of that road trip…
