I’ve heard so much about Penang over the years and have always wanted to go, but had some technical difficulties in being able to visit Malaysia. Two years ago these technical difficulties were resolved and I finally got to wander different parts of Malaysia and make my first visit to Penang. Before Penang I only saw Kuching and Kota Kinabalu and admit to not being very impressed, but Penang felt very different. There’s a lovely old town, it has well developed areas with lots of expats and international travelers, and there are a few in-city nearby fun attractions.
I lingered longer than expected and got to try quite a few of the areas. Went up the mountain with the funky Funicular to find some grand panoramic views of the island and region high above the forest. Visited majestic temples, ate lots of yummy food, saw some heritage and colonial history, and caught a few nice live music shows. Overall, a very pleasant experience.
Here’s a bit from my travel visions of Penang Malaysia…
