Long ago, I spent some time living in Tainan, and have not been back to visit for over 10 years. End of last year, I finally made it back, and it was an emotional nostalgia trip for me. I honestly thought I’d remember more, I have such strong memories from this city, but as I was exploring around on a scooter I realized that either Tainan has really changed, or I really changed – things seemed familiar at some parts but for the most part I was surprised how different it all was from what I remembered. It’s funny how memory plays tricks on you sometimes, and how you create a whole inner narrative that could be somewhat disconnected from reality.
What I could say, for sure, is that in my mind Taiwan and especially Tainan are associated with a special time in my life that I hold very dear, and so – regardless of the last visit, my inner narrative will remain strong.
I previously wrote lots of posts about Tainan, even had a website helping expats find all the good spots, but you’re still welcome to join me on a 10 years revisit to some of the Tainan highlights…
