Chinese sure know how to pull off quirky tourist traps, and The Bund Tourist Sightseeing Tunnel is the perfect example. Why anyone would think that an attraction of crossing from The Bund side of the Huangpo river to the new Pudong area through an underwater tunnel of epileptic lights a good idea is beyond me. But I guess it’s working, as it seems like things are pretty busy down there, and occasionally you do hear someone exclaiming the “oooo… aaaaaa…” sounds, which is what makes the experience interesting for me.
If you’re not into tourist traps and the cultural experience of taking the ride with country-side Chinese admiring the oddities of the big city, this following video I took might be enough for you :
If you really insist on going, there are a few other worthless attractions down there that you should avoid. I think even the visiting country-side folks were insulted by what they saw.
Look mommy, a baby shark!
With 65RMB for the whole thing, you just know you got a really good deal.
BTW – Initially, I was going to buy a combined ticket with the China Sex Museum (LP said I could), till I finally figured out that the sex museum was moved to a different location outside Shanghai (Tongli). Damn. (though I heard there’s one not too far away from Hong Kong in Guangdong province, so not all is lost)

Let me know how badly you suffered…
Thanks for linking to the gallery on my site! I actually didn't think it was quite that bad, just really kitschy. Then again, I spent a lot of time in Niagara Falls as a kid, so I am desensitized to silliness. The trip through the tunnel reminded me of the end of 2001. I didn't check out the other attractions.
