On my way to Beer Sheva in the southern desert part of Israel I was looking for nearby local attractions, and noticed a couple of historical sites I have not been to before, and decided to stop by. Well, surprise. Israel is one of those places where a random site where I was the only visitor, could turn out to be a world-class historical archeological site, and both Tel Lachish and Tel Beer Sheva were such sites, dating back to biblical times, as early as 8th century BCE, with evidence for presence as early as 5500 BCE. Tel Beer Sheva is also a UNESCO heritage site, and for a good reason.
So, yeah, these have it all. Remarkable ruins you can walk amongst, panoramic scenic views of the area, and enough historical drama and provided details for you to be able to imagine a bit of what went on during those times and feel a bit of the regional history.
Let’s go ahead and explore the two sites…
