On a road trip going from Japan’s Kagoshima up north towards Aso-Kuju National Park in Kumamoto, I made a stop to see Takachiho Gorge. The fall autumn leaves add color to the already gorgeous gorge, making the views spectacular and atmosphere magical. There’s a nice walk along the gorge with lots of little Japanese attractions along the way.
You could easily spend a day there, even longer, taking a boat going to explore some of the waterfalls, visiting some of the attractions, soaking in some hotsprings, or trying out the many delicious local options. I only did the short walk, but there are also many other hiking options.
Shall we go explore?
