Instead of taking the train/HSR up to the airport, I took the regular night bus. It reminded me of my first arrival in Taiwan a few years back. Never in my life, anywhere else, have I seen anything like it.
I’m a tall guy, way too tall for the average seats they give me at most buses and airplanes, but in the Taiwan’s super buses I’m at last content. Those huge sofa machines allow even folks like me to enjoy a smooth comfortable ride.
Every sofa has it private screen with headphones built onto the sofa where you set your head down. The sofa is adjustable in every possible way you can think of and the Video On Demand entertainment – although interface is in Chinese – is absolutely brilliant. Better than any business-class flights I’ve been to.
In the side drawers I found blankets and a video-game controller if I want to have some interactive entertainment.
From Tainan to Nankan-Taoyuan and a 5 minute shuttle to the airport, in total 3.5 hours. I guess there’s really no reason to take the train/HSR. Best bus ride I’ve had, anytime, anywhere. Brilliant.
haha.. 禾新 HoHsin Bus? itook the same bus travel back to Taipei as well on that sunday. not that i really need it, but didnt manage to find the blanket.. woo ~so secretive ??
i’ve been taking those buses for years. i used to load up on whisky and cola and sit back for a really happy ride, watching Jun Kusanagi videos on the interactive system. it doesn’t get any better than that!
Chloris – I’ve found that in many cases, curiousity and exploration have helped me find things that people living and using something their whole lives never knew about.
I say – fight familiarity, explore with curiousity … 😉
MJ – you know, to make it really perfect they should really serve drinks instead of water.
I need to get me one of them sofas.
