Much to see and do in Helsinki, but one of the nicest things I did was to take a short boat trip to one of the outlaying islands to explore some of the local history with the Suomenlinna fortress, and 18th century defensive island protecting Helsinki from invasions. There are a few stops for the boat you can decide to take, and if you plan it right you can be dropped off on one side and return from the other, spending a few hours roaming through the island and visiting its many attractions. There’s even a beach you can take a swim at.
A great way to spend half a day or more when visiting Helsinki.
