I recently revisited my old home of Hong Kong and stayed over as a guest on the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) campus at the new hotel next the new buildings for the business school and the
Every year the management department at HKUST goes for a boat trip around the Saikung peninsula sailing through the national geopark and visiting some deserted white-sand beach. This year, however, marks a occasion in my life. After 5 years of
When it comes to photography I’ve gone through some major changes in the last 6 years. When I first set to Asia and started this blog I had this inherent bias against photography as a whole. I didn’t understand why
Planet Solar, the solar powered boat that’s circling the world, has taken a short trip away from the Hong Kong harbour in Kowloon to visit us students at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). HKUST is located
Hong Kong news reported that people were lining up upto 3 days before Ani-Com in order to get their hands on collectable rare figurines. It seemed an even bigger attraction than the Japanese AV pornstars and the Cosplay competition.

Blogging, photographing, twittering and all that weird tech online stuff we do, how… Read more »
Sorry for not being too clear – I meant the gathering of photographers to shoot them during the events is what’s strange and that I’m not really a fan of it as a photographer. If I stumble across one, I’ll probably shoot for a while, but wouldn’t go out of my way to go to one. To me, it’s easier to just shoot a model. Each to their own though – I know some people love it.
Craig – oh, I misunderstood 🙂 I see your point. Well, I think many of the photographers there come to “find work” and socialize. I got a few business cards and checked out some of their work which was quite remarkable. Cosplayers have their own social websites, their own magazines, merchandise, fashion, stores, restaurants etc. so some photographers can make a good living just by focusing on that niche. I think there’s also a darker side to the whole thing with the more adult related Cosplay industry and I sometimes get the feeling some of the photographers there are hunting… Read more »
