Hong Kong folks like their seafood fresh and Sai-Kung is one of small places where you can really appreciate just how much. Along the boardwalk is a long series of sea food restaurants where you can pick out your live sea food straight from the water containers.
The local staff will help you put those living crawling things in take-away bag, but you can also do it yourself if you’re into forming close relationships with your food. It happens quite often that I see a local mother encouraging her little kids to grab those and usually the kids seem to really love the idea. What could be nicer than going out with your mommy for a walk on the boardwalk to grab some lobsters?
Some of the issues you might face is how to carry it all…
But if that isn’t fresh enough for you, the local fishermen offer their merchandize right from the sea returning boats. The whole pier becomes a fresh market…
The fish market kind of smell, BTW, you can sense the moment you enter Sai Kung village. It’s all around you.
I love fish markets – I must make a trip to HK sometime to check it out.
