Lantau island has some wonderful beaches and scenic hikes, and it’s also home to several communities with different vibes. Discovery Bay is mostly expat families in what feels a bit like Florida vibe (golf carts, etc.) versus Mui Wo which is the more hippie expat/local community, much more village life like. There is no direct connection between the two points, either than with a ferry, but there are a couple of lovely hikes through the separating mountains that offer some breathtaking views in both directions. The hikes are fairly easy, though there are some serious upward inclines, but it’s all paved with stairs and resting points, and can easily be done in a couple of hours. In both you’ll find some nice beaches, and places to chill and hang out.
So, we’ll start with Mui Wo…
Took the ferry to Mui Wo from Central…
Village life with a nice calm stretch of beach…
And then up we go…

Up on the mountains are several attractions, like this old Christian monastery…
And then it’s following the road of suffering back down to Discovery Bay…

With some nice beaches…
And in Discovery are some nice parks, it’s all well developed and organized…
