Sometimes I accidently discover wonderful strange hikes in Hong Kong. One afternoon at Hong Kong University I decided I needed a break and was looking for an easy walk to do in the area. Having done the morning trail countless times, I checked my Google Maps and saw the nearby Mount Davis and realized I’ve never actually checked what’s on that mountain. I took a taxi, and asked the driver to take me as high as possible, going up in winding roads all the way to a youth ostel very close to the top. From there it was climbing up some stairs and then you’re at the top of the mountain with some fortifications stuck in time and some nice views of the area. I have to admit it was a bit creepy, and I was the only one there, but it did seem like people sometimes go up there. I wandered around for about half an hour, before heading down the winding road all the way to a University of Chicago campus I didn’t know about, built on top of some western HK island batteries. Really random strange discoveries, ended up being much more than I initially set out to do.
Once you get to the top, there are lots of trees, but still can see some of the harbor ocean views…
And come across the old barracks and forts…
Not much on the very top…
So we’ll start heading down…
And the views open up a bit, with views of Lamma and Lantau…
Until we get to the University of Chicago HK campus…
