Kunming is the capital of Yunnan province and probably your first stop in the area. A few highlight well known attractions in the area, like the nearby Shilin Stone Forest, and Green Lake Park at the center of town. Down towards the south east is the Guandu Ancient Town, an older section of the city with a few local markets, temples, and gardens, that’s well worth exploring, if only to watch the locals do their thing. The locals present it saying that this area has five mountains, six temples, seven pavilions, and eight shrines. Some of these date back as early as 13th century, so there’s a bit of history there. You can easily spend a couple of hours walking around, roaming the markets, and going in to explore the temples.
Let’s start from the market street…
Enter a couple of temples…
Go towards the main square and catch the locals…
A few more temple shrines…
With nice ponds and small gardens…
