During my last day in Crete, I was hoping to do something near Heraklion to learn more about the mythological aspects of Crete. You get glimpses into that as you go through the historical sites of the islands, and I remembered a bit from high school and old books and movies, but thought I’d enjoy the narrative from beginning to end.
I was in luck, up in the mountains, about one hour from Heraklion by car was the Greek Mythology Thematic Park, a weird tourist attraction, bordering tourist trap, set next to a very popular underground cave. It features most of the well known characters with explanations of the stories and background for each one of those.
I spent about and hour going through the complex, and listening to the audio tour, and found it all quite enjoyable and entertaining. They have done a good job, and it helped give me perspective and catch me up with the week roaming around the island.
So… here’s a bit from my walk around the museum attraction…
