Moscow has some really wonderful parks, and Gorky is one of the highlights. If you’re looking for green space for some gardens, sports, food, arts, and … beaches? then Gorky seems like just the place. It has all of those and much more. It’s a very large park and there are all kinds of things taking place over the weekend, so you can easily spend half a day there. In the park I saw music concerts, visited a new contemporary art museum, enjoyed gardens and (closed) fake white-sand beaches, and got loads of free stuff from all sorts of promotion companies roaming around (like two coke-zero bottles, yay).
Let’s take a walk around the park…
Recently opened is the wonderful Garage Museum of Contemporary Art. Since it was brand new, I couldn’t find it in any of the guides, and decided to go in and have a look. They fed me with some free Russian dumplings, they got me to play ping-pong inside the museum (it was an exhibit, can you imagine?), and, oh-yeah, the no-photography exhibitions were pretty interesting too, although still somewhat small. But I get the feeling this is going to grow into one great museum with time.
Around the park there were also some music concerts, and that day there was also the Moscow marathon…
And the park is located next to the lovely river…

A lovely way to spend a day with the family out in the open at the heart of a city. Be sure to check out that new funky contemporary art museum as well.
