Ghent is a beautiful town well worth exploring, and one of the nicest ways to do that is take a boat ride through the canals. There are lots of tour companies that take tourists around, so you don’t have to plan too much, and just hope on one of those for an hour or so going around the central canals. There are longer tours, if you have more time and want to explore further. The guide will likely explain some of the local history, and point out some of the canal highlights, and different tours have different ‘themes’. If possible, try and find a tour that is -exclusively- in your language or one that’s only for you, or the quad-lingual guide will likely say each sentence in up to 4 different languages, which can get somewhat tiring. Another option is for you to get a kayak and do the tour yourself, just roaming around the canals and exploring wherever you want. Either way, 4 languages or not, you’re in for a treat, Ghent is an absolute gem.
Let’s hope on a boat and take a short trip around the lovely Ghent canals…
Definitely take some time to do this when in Ghent. It’s a great way to get to know the city and experience its charm.
