At the center of Israel is a large forest – Forest of the Martyrs – to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust. I must have driven nearby more times than I can count, never bothering to take the time and venture in to take a look. So, one weekend, I decided to try and explore the area.
I started with the main site, where there are a few memorial statues, like the Scroll of Fire, at the peak of the hill, overlooking the scenic view to the west, which on a good day will allow you to see as far as Tel Aviv.
The views …
to the north… (from Mitzpe Yossie מצפה יוסי)
to the west…
A few paths around that hill, with lots of nature to explore…
The other part is down in the valley, with caves and history…
From which I set out to hike up the mountain to the other ridge…
