The Walt Disney World and Epcot Center are some of the most vivid memories I have from my year living in the states in 1989. Based in Topeka middle-of-no-where Kansas the family set off for a trip to Florida and Orlando spending a few days in kids’ paradise. It was around Christmas and Hannukah time and celebrations were all exploding all over the Epcot world-cultures park, with endless fireworks at the end of the day and various themed attractions throughout. 23 years later, the familia – even if a few people short – made it back. We ventured through Disney World and the Hollywood studio parks for two days. Though the experience was no where near as intense as what I remember from my early years, with many of the attractions looking a bit outdated, it was still an experience. You can be as cynical as you’d like about the Walt enterprise (and believe me, I am) but I think you can’t help but feeling impressed with what this place has to offer.
This round ball used to have the most technologically advanced ride back in the days, but now that I’ve seen Universal Studios it only feels a bit nostalgic. But, you got to appreciate the vision it once offered when this thing was launched aimed at celebrating human achievement and promoting the pursuit of knowledge. Well worthy goals.
What’s to do ? Lots.
Some are basic games with technology…
Some dino adventures…
Need for speed…
But most impressive, perhaps, especially to those in the states who wouldn’t venture out to see the real thing, are the cultural attractions…
All in all, a very pleasant day with the familia in one of the world’s best known attractions.
