My flight to the eastern coast of Spain landed in Girona, and many people go straight to Barcelona, but I decided to have a look at what’s in the area. When I realized that Girona was very close to Figueres, the town where Dali was based, I just had to go have a look. I never did relate to much of the, how should we call it, traditional art, but there were a number of artists that had a strong impact on me growing up. One such example is MC Escher, and my visit to the MC Escher Museum at The Hague in the Netherlands was very memorable. Dali is another example, I can clearly recall a Dali poster photo hanging up on my grandmother’s wall, and being completely amazed by Dali’s surreal art when I was first realized the diversity and genius of this man browsing through a few books featuring his art during middle school. Dali had his hand in everything, it’s quite remarkable to see how many art domains he mastered, and how powerful the revolutionary message of surrealism is.
The Dali museum is an outstanding work of art. I’ve been to art museums all over the world, some considered inspirational or sensational, but there’s nothing out there quite like the Dali Museum, you have to see it to believe it. You can see Dali’s influences in every corner, the whole building screams surreal, and the art overwhelms you with curiosity and amazement. I can’t remember ever experiencing such a sensation from just visiting an art museum. With all due respect to Guadi and the art all over Barcelona, this museum in Figueres was the center of my art adventures in Spain.

Outstanding. If you’re planning to visit Barcelona, then landing in Girona and starting from Figueres is a great option, and the Dali Museum is not to be missed. I dare say, even if you’re not an enthusiastic Dali fan like myself.
