The Ramon crater of the Israeli Negev desert offers a number of geological attractions, so if the stunning views of the Ramon crater aren’t enough for you then one option you might want to consider is the colored sand saw mill recreation park. Someone in the local authorities decided that it would be a good idea to collect sand of different colors from different parts of the Ramon crater to form one open park. A geology lesson and fun rolled into one, how could you beat that?
That’s my sis up there, by the way, wondering around the colored sands with a bottle, to form this piece of art …
Can you see it? can you feel it? all those colors, and they’re right there in your own bottle. It’s quite a souvenir, ain’t it?
So let us wonder around in joy…
and wonder…
Behold the beauty of the Israeli desert…
(last two were from Sde Boker, a bit north to the crater, but I was already on a roll and those moony mountains deserved a mention)
It could be due to the intense memories from the nearby officers’ training camp (Bahad 1) which I spent some month with, and/or the endless lonely nights navigating through these empty lands under nothing but starlight during that officer training course, but in general – I feel like I have a special connection to that place.
