Last year I had the chance to revisit some early life memories and go back to a campus I have not visited in many years – the Bar Ilan University campus, near Ramat Gan, in Israel. It was during the pandemic and when semester was out, so the campus was very quiet, I basically had the whole campus to myself, and I walked around for a couple of hours, trying to recall memories and figure out what I was back then and what was changed over the years. There was a whole new section of the campus I was completely unfamiliar with, and things were much greener and colorful than I remembered.
To my great surprise, I was able to find someone from back in 1996, who was sitting in his office listening to classical music, just as I had remembered him from over 25 years ago, and though he did not remember about me, he did remember some interesting bits about my family, which was both funny and disturbing at the same time.
It was all one long nostalgia walk, and I wondered why it took me so many years to find it in me to go back, but I’m glad I did. These weren’t the easiest years, and this felt a bit like closure, of sorts.
So, I give you, a walking tour of the Bar-Ilan University campus…
