Gerard Butler wins over Angelina Jolie, or atleast when it comes to speaking Chinese. The other day, I caught the awful movie "Tomb Raider – the Cradle of Life" with arguably the world’s sexiest actors and was surprised to see both actors trying out their Chinese.
Here’s the scene. Angelina opens up and if you jump to the end (5:18) you’ll see Gerard attempt.
Honestly, it’s almost impossible to make out what Angelina is saying. Her tones are off, the words don’t make much sense. "我能不能" you can what? is that how you pronounce "這很重要"?
Gerard, however, is a different story. It seems he really was trying, and his tones are not half-bad. "衣服很漂亮" is almost mistake free.
This continues the recent trend of top Hollywood stars spicing things up in their action thrillers by playing around with speaking Chinese. Keano Reeves with the "The Day the Earth Stood Still" is – BTW – ranked among the top search engine queries for this blog, and we’re talking dozens of daily visitors. Go figure.

Great film!!!
