In my last visit to Lisbon I had a meeting at the Catolica Lisbon School of Business & Economics and so decided to make half a day out of it to explore the nearby area and the University of Lisbon campus. It was a gloomy day that didn’t allow for a full appreciation of campus and it was during carnival time so the campus was generally quite empty. But still, I was able to get a feel for it and see the area and for the student vibe. The two universities and a few others are practically within the same area, designated to universities, so it’s easy to combine a tour to several universities. Both Catolica and University of Lisbon are doing rather well, if you consider rankings any indication, and they are opening up with increasing numbers of international faculty and especially international students coming in for an exchange or even full-time degrees (MBAs, etc.). Obviously, the center is the University of Lisbon, and the Catolica business school is much smaller. It’s nice just to wonder around, but I’m guessing the highlights are the library area and the few museums hosted by the university.
