The first thing I did after arriving in Chicago and putting down my things was to head over to the lake-side and stroll along the lake towards the city. My lovely host family were located at the adorable boys-town East Lakeview, only two blocks away from the water and so I was there within minutes, enjoying the warm sun admiring the Chicago skyline while feeling very surprised at how nice the Chicago beaches and beach-folk were. Though Michigan Lake is "only" a lake, it’s a very big lake which makes the beaches feel like you’re at the ocean, only there’s none of those wave sounds and the water is sweeter and clearer. The Chicago people around the lake walk all seemed very healthy – sporty, smiling, and with minimal clothing.
Doesn’t look like a beach yet? Take a look at those…
Isn’t that wonderful?
And if sun tanning and volley-balling aren’t your thing, then a bit up north are some marinas with yachts and boats…
If you make it all the way down to the downtown area coastline, you’ll reach Navy Pier – an artificial island previously used by the Navy, which features a large Ferris wheel, some tourist attractions and a shopping area…
I also had the pleasure of doing the trip up that same walk with a Chicago resident, stopping for a visit at the very pleasant Lincoln Park Zoo. Was even nicer the second time around…
That’s beautiful , too bad i didn’t find beach.
