If you want to learn how the Shanghai huge metropolitan came to be what it is today and get a glimpse of where it’s headed – then the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center building might be very interesting for you to explore.
It’s a somewhat narcissistic self promoting view of Shanghai, yet it does a good job in overwhelming you with the size and complexity of modern urban Shanghai.
Wikipedia offers the following:
The Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center (Chinese: 上海城市规划展览馆; Pinyin: Shànghǎi Chéngshì Guīhuà Zhǎnlǎn Guǎn) is located on People’s Square, Shanghai, China, adjacent to the municipal government building.
The Exhibition Center is a six-story building, with two basement levels, which displays Shanghai’s urban planning and development. Exhibitions include models of planned and recent developments, as well as Shanghai’s history.
At the first floor, you’ll enter a grand hall showing the recent developments around the Huangpu river. The New Pudong side which was bare land 20 years ago now hosts one of the finest collection of oversized finance buildings competing against each other for grandeur and height.
But the real treat is on the third floor with a complete miniature model of the entire city…
Other floors will show you some of the recent architectural landmarks that were recently built in Shanghai.
Some with 3D models and amusement park like joy-rides flying around Shanghai…
Down below, you can see a bit of the older style Shanghai, which the government is now trying to restore and resurrect…
30RMB for entrance, just near the People’s Park. Mostly recommended for urban architecture fans and for those needing yet another reassurance about China’s generally impressive efforts in transforming itself to possibly become the world’s next super-power.
