My last stop on my recent trip to southern South Korea around Busan was to Gyeongju. About to wrap things up on my last day I went to visit Bulguksa Temple, and when taking the bus back to city center I noticed a funky building and a big sign for Expo. I quickly realized I probably missed something major, I got off the bus and managed to catch the World Culture Expo Park in its last hour before closing down. The funky building, it seems, had an observation deck that had spectacular views of the area with the mountains surrounding Bomun Lake. After taking in the view, I decided to take a long walk along the lake and make my way back to town very slowly. It was a treat, a good farewell to Gyeongju and South Korea. The lake had some nice bars and restaurants, where I could chill for a while and do some scenery and people watching while eating some local fruit-cereal-icecream weird treat. I enjoyed it all.
To share with you my unexpected discovery of Gyeongju, here’s my photo walk of the expo area & Bomun Lake…
