Between Malaga and Seville up in the mountains and close to national parks (Sierra de las Nieves and Sierra de Grazalema) is the lovely old town of Ronda. Dating back to the 9th century BC (yes, BC, not AD), it’s one of the region’s oldest towns and has seen all conquerors and rulers. The mountainous scenery with high cliffs connected by very old bridges makes for especially spectacular views. Some of the world’s greatest writers and poets appreciated the region’s beauty and have decided to make Ronda their home, settling in to get some inspiration, and you’ll see various reminders of people like Ernest Hemingway and Orson Welles and hear tales of what they did while they were there.
There are three old bridges (don’t let “new bridge” confuse you), hanging gardens, streams, a bullfighting ring, small palaces, famous casa residences, various small museums, and a lot of terrific restaurants and cafes with eager locals and huge dishes.
Shall we take a walk around town?
