Oh, Venice. How long I’ve waited to see you. For years I’ve been meaning to go, and came close many times, but never quite got around to it. Something always came up. But this time, a family gathering to celebrate a significant holiday finally gave me the opportunity to catch this beautiful city in almost ideal weather and with close family I don’t get to see and spend much time with, so together it made for a very memorable trip. I can completely understand why people adore Venice so much. If somehow Venice wasn’t over-commercialized, over-touristy, and so expensive (in Italian standards), this would probably be one of the nicest cities to visit anywhere in the world. It doesn’t matter where you go or what you do, randomly point your mobile camera in some direction and hit click and you got yourself a postcard quality photo, it’s that beautiful. The architecture, the history, the culture, the canals, the colors, the people, the gondolas, the smells, there is never a dull moment. In my last day after the family went away I spent a whole day walking around and venturing away from the touristy hotspots and that was when Venice revealed itself in full glory, with endless picturesque streets and bohemian crowds casually having coffee or drinks and enjoying life, the authentic Italian way.
There are probably people who do a much better job at capturing the beauty of Venice, but here is a photo walk sample to show you that even with a lousy mobile camera this city is absolutely stunning.
