One of the oldest ruin sites that we visited in Greece was Mycenae to the east of the Peloponnese. Dating back as far as the 18th century BC the Mycenae served as a regional stronghold overlooking the region from a mountain top. There are ruins, and not much is left standing, still there is enough that with a bit of imagination you can picture how things were back in the days. With the Greek ruins mostly known for the Ancient Greek civilization, starting from 12th century BC, it was refreshing to see something different from the empires that predated that.
