I wasn’t planning anything special for Thanksgiving, but two weeks of -10c average daytime temperatures in Champaign ignited the need to escape to warmer climates and so – way past last minute – I begun looking for cheap tickets and ended up booking a trip to Mexico City. To be completely frank, I had no idea what to expect. People whose opinions I hold dear have told me horror stories about safety in Mexico City and the last thing I wanted is to worry about where and what to do. But, aside from that I knew nothing about this gigantic metropolis and I’ve wanted to visit Mexico and central America and never really had the chance.

And so, without much planning, having done absolutely no homework what so ever, I headed down south to try my luck. The result? a fantastic trip, I could not have wished for anything more.

From the mind-blowing Teotihuacan Pyramids, through the many lovely neighborhoods and world-class tourist attractions, to the wonderful and friendly people and the amazing local Mexican food, I couldn’t get enough of it all. And the weather, oh the weather, it was exactly what I needed to recover from the northern US cold.

Below is my "visions of Mexico City", a quick preview to the things I’ve seen and experienced in my Mexico trip. Much more to come on each of those later…

Truly a unique and magical place. I’ve lived in the states all my life but as far back as I remember I would be sent off to spend the summer there with grandfather. At around the age of 13 I began exploring the whole city via subway metro. One thing I can surly say is there was never enuff time in the day for all the wonderful adventures and places I encountered, some of which mentioned on this article.
