On my recent visit to Busan in southern South Korea I wasn’t expecting to go far from the city, but somehow made it all the way up to Gyeongju, a small town with great historical attractions and some wonderful scenic views. I started off with the royal tombs – Daereungwon, Cheonmachong, and Gyelim – with a very old observatory Cheomseongdae, crossed the street towards Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond with the Hwangnyongsa Temple Site and Bunhwangsa, took the bus to Bulguksa temple on the distant mountains at the Gyeongju National Park (skipping Seokguram, was getting late). Finally, as the final stop on the bus back, I noticed the Expo park and Bomun Lake and spent an evening wondering around.
Only a day, but managed to see and do quite a lot.
Here is my visions photo summary of South Korean Gyeongju :
Royal tombs and historical sites…
Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond…
Bulguksa temple…
Expo park and Bomun Lake…
And back to city center for late night market walk.
