Been meaning to visit Madrid for quite some time, but it wasn’t until the holidays this year that I finally had a chance to make it. On the first night of my arrival I was pretty overwhelmed, the whole city was overrun by tourists, with the big squares featuring holiday markets and huge Christmas trees, and my walking around the city for a few hours revealed a bustling energetic city with lots of cool areas to explore. There were, ofcourse, palaces, gardens, world-class museums, and, if you’re into that sort of thing – world class football teams with world-class stadiums, which is all to say there’s plenty to keep you busy for a while. With the various day trips, like Toledo, you can spend a week in the area and still find new exciting things to do. A world-class city with the wonderful Spanish laid back atmosphere. On my next visit I would probably try and avoid holiday time with less tourists and more attractions/restaurants open.
For now, I give you my first impressions of Madrid from my short holidays visit…
