I did a crazy 10 days tour of the Balkans a few years back, but have not made it to Serbia, and so decided to take a weekend to go and visit. Since it was very short, I could only do Belgrade and the nearby Novi Sad, and get a feel for it all. I’m not sure what I expected, but it was overall very pleasant. I guess that with countries like China and Israel, Serbia also gets a bad public media rep, and I could hardly see any tourists around, but to me that just made it more special. I got to see the Euro-Communist architecture style, meet some of the lively locals, eat some new food, learn a bit about the regional history and recent politics, witness some of the destruction by the NATO forces in the last war, so that’s plenty for a weekend getaway. Belgrade has the makings of a great tourist destination, it’s very affordable, locals are friendly, lots of restaurants and cafes to chill, and there are lots of tourist attractions crowded in a central area.
To kick it off, I present to you my quick visions of Belgrade…

Hopefully, more to come about Belgrade soon.
