Venice is gorgeous. Not even the endless tourist crowds and over-commercialization can ruin this beautiful town, but you should try – when possible – to avoid the crowds and take the time to venture out of the main tourist traps a bit. After spending some time with family, and visiting little treasures like Murano Island, I had one day left to explore Venice on my own, and so I set off to the southern part of Venice to see a bit of the university area. I was hoping to get a sense of what it would be like to be a student in such a city, and perhaps see a bit of local life. I was, very much, a different experience from the tourist area, to the extent that if I were to come back I’ll likely prefer to stay at this area.
Walk with me down south, going over the canals…
Into the university area…
With wonderful little piazzas and local markets…
Location:
This wraps up this Venice visit. Hope to go back and explore more soon, before the place sinks or gets completely overrun by the tourist hordes.
