Although I’ve heard Penghu and Green island are terrific, the Kending beaches are the best I’ve seen in Taiwan. Not quite the Thailand islands yet, but in some spots it’s as inviting as the Goa beaches. There are some really nice beaches in Kending.
It could have been nicer if they confined all water sports to specific area and left the beaches to offer nothing but their natural beauty.
Still, it’s wonderful to see the tropical white sands and clear waters in southern Taiwan.
There are some local landmarks, like the lighthouse at the most southern spot in Taiwan, where Spring Scream 2009 was taking place :
the green energy windmills…
the really ugly nuclear plant (I’ll spare you), and this thing (if you know what it is, then you know what it is) :
The views around Kending are breathtaking.
There are some above average diving spots, if you’re interested, and some really good seafood for very cheap…
I still need to try and get down there sometime. 6 years in Taiwan and still no Kending for me. Good photos.

Great photos, Fili! We really enjoyed our time in Kenting last year. The beaches there are incredible, however my number one spot for beaches in Taiwan are the Penghu Islands – mainly because there was hardly anyone there and we had the whole place to ourselves.
Carrie – yeah, so I've heard. After pretty much covering most of "mainland Taiwan" I hope to visit some of the islands next time. Ironically, I'm closer to most of the Taiwanese island being in China than I might be being in Taiwan.

It's my eighth time returning to Taiwan and Kending has blown my traditional view of how Taiwan is viewed by outsiders. Kending is hip, fun has a wide selection of honky-tonk shops with as much beach brick-a- brack you'd ever want, drag queen bars, straight pubs. Here people are tan, relaxed and look great – unlike in Taipei or Kaushaung where the average folk look a bit worn from city living. Today I'll hang out at the pool with my… Read more »
Matthew – yep, I agree. Thanks for sharing. ^_^
