My first stop in Warsaw was the Palace of Culture and Science near the main train station. On the way I could already see the grand building from afar and as I drove closer the building emerged in full glory. The area surrounding the train station features some of Warsaw’s funkiest architecture, but most of it is quite modern, keeping up with the growth Poland has been experiencing. The Palace of Culture & Science is much older style, but got to hand it to the communists – this might look a bit cheesy, but it definitely is impressive. When you see a strange tall building like that there’s really only one thing you can do – you -have- to go up. And, as expected, the building has an observation deck, the Taras Widokowy with panoramic views of Warsaw, a great way to start a Warsaw tour and get your bearings.
So we’ll circle it, starting from the train station shopping mall exit…
And up we go to the terrace for a great view of the skyscraper area of Warsaw…
There are also a few things to see in the area, either performances or some cultural events…
And a nice green park nearby…
Location:
If you’re arriving in Warsaw in a train, this is a great first stop. Even if not, it’s not too far away from the center and definitely worth it, especially on a beautiful blue skies day like mine.
