Just when I think I’ve visited everything that there is to visit in Hong Kong I accidentally come across a new spot that reminds me how wonderful Hong Kong is. From an unexplored nearly deserte ferry pier next the Chinese University of Hong Kong departs a one hour ferry take goes through beautiful Plover Cove area, near Plover Cove Reservoir and the Hoi Ha Wan Marine Park to Sai Kung area’s Grass Island. It’s a small fishermen island border the south China sea, and you can see Sai Kung National/Geo Park and even China further away.
The ‘hike’ around the island won’t take very long, and it’s all doable within an hour or two, though you can ofcourse take much longer to enjoy the scenery and the park. While I was visiting there was some movie shooting going on, a few couples scattered around enjoying the romantic views, and a handful of campers who were planning to stay for the night. We saw a few villagers, but it was mostly very quiet.
The island has a few “attractions” like a hanging rock on a beach and a small temple, and there are a few animals roaming around freely that make for a good photo op. A couple of restaurants offer sea food and local snacks.
After spending a couple of hours, I took the ferry heading back through Sai Kung park, and then a bus to Sai Kung town, my old area back in the days.
Was a good day out, a wonderful relax contrast to the insane urban life that is central Hong Kong.
