Shida night market (師大夜市) used to be part of my daily routine for almost a semester. Back in the days, almost 5 years ago, when I took a semester of studying Chinese in Taipei, Shida was where I headed for lunch with my classmates after morning classes and was often where I would go hangout with friends and search for local Taiwanese food after dark. In both cases there was an implicit pact that we should not revisit the same place twice, and so – throughout the 3-4 months that I was there, I got to taste endless different flavours and dishes and when I had to leave it was quite obvious I haven’t even scratched the surface of what the Shida area has to offer. Somehow, together with Gongguan and National Taiwan University on one side- close to where my apartment was – and up towards the Yongkang pedestrian street and Daan Park, the food options are almost limitless.
In my recent visit to Taipei I went back to see my old school and the Shida area, and had really strong flashbacks of nostalgia from the strong smells already as I was approaching the area a few hundred meters away .
So, what’s to eat?
Yep, it’s really very crowded, especially on the weekends.
Just in case you’re wondering, this one here are some of my all time favorites… :$
