Didn’t have long to go around and explore Serbia but I did get to do a daytrip from Belgrade to see Novi Sad. The major highlight in Novi Sad is the Petrovaradin Fortress. The fort dates back to the 17th century although they have found remains of a settlement up there going as far back as 19,000BC, with fortifications laid down as early as 3000BC. Imagine that. The Celts were here, the Romans, the Byzantines, the Turks, etc. you’ve got a bit from every grand empire in the region. This area has seen many wars, some of them quite devastating, but somehow it did manage to pull through every time, and is now quite nicely renovated and a great place to chill and overlook the Novi Sad part of the grand Danube river and the old city further away.
Let’s take a walk around the fortress area…
Location:
A very quick and easy getaway from Belgrade with some fantastic views and long history. If you are coming in to Novi Sad, this is probably a must do.
